The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a worldwide Christian community that was founded in Paris in 1833, by Frederic Ozanam and five friends. They chose St. Vincent de Paul as their patron saint because they also planned to serve those in need and bring them closer to God. During the 17th century, St. Vincent de Paul had founded three other charities. Today, in the United States, there are more than 4,400 conferences and 96,000 members.
The Society helps the needy regardless of their creed, ethnic or social background through person to person contact. We collaborate with other local charitable service agencies to assist with relieving a need or addressing the cause of the need to ensure the individual or family can move forward with knowledge that will help them to prevent the issue in the future.
We are funded by the generosity of our parishioners, community members, and other charities. We expand our giving by including holiday meals and children's gifts at Christmas, thanks to the giving and caring nature of our wonderful town and community.
Around 12 million people are helped annually by the members of St. Vincent de Paul in the United States. Confidentiality and dignity of those who are served is maintained throughout the assistance process. One of our key goals is to bring hope and encouragement to those in need.
